Simultaneous interpretation is the technique by which an interpreter translates a speaker’s words in real time, while they are still speaking, with only a few seconds’ delay. Participants listen to the translation in their own language through headsets, without interrupting the pace of the event.

How it works

Interpreters work in pairs, from a sound-isolated booth, listening to the speaker through headphones. Their translation is sent through the interpretation system to the participants’ receivers. At large conferences there may be several booths — one for each language.

What equipment you need

A typical setup includes:

interpreter booths compliant with ISO standards;
interpreter desks for channel selection and relay;
a digital conference system (for example Bosch DICENTIS);
receivers and headsets for every participant.

When you need it

Simultaneous interpretation suits international conferences, forums, training sessions and any event where participants speak different languages and the flow of discussion matters.
